I designed the cover for Dan Prior’s excellent book Orphans.

It’s a great read, a well-crafted sci-fi story of young survivors of ecological disaster in near-future Australia.

I’ve not designed a book cover before, but Dan had a very specific vision for the front cover and sketch draft so all I had to do was refine his vision and bring all the elements together.

Adding the rear cover was an additional challenge which was somewhat unexpected, but I think I managed to make the covers visually connect front-to-back, which is a design principle which I love to see in book cover designs.

Unfortunately I won’t have a printed copy in my hands for a while as Amazon printing and shipping is disrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s a sad irony that Dan’s dystopian fiction book is being delayed by the outbreak of actual dystopian facts.

6 Sydney artists – and more to come – are coming together for a fundraiser gig on Sat 1 Feb 2020.

Artists, our venue and organisers are all volunteering their time, with all monies raised donated directly to the Rural Fire Service account setup for families of firies who have lost their lives in the bushfires.

Food by the delectable MAMA SMOKE included in your ticket.

Ticketholders will be emailed the address of our secret warehouse before the show.

In mid-December I started a crowdfunding campaign for my first Papa Fire record called “Burnt Perfect”. 

As the horrific and tragic fires engulf our country, the intense absurdity of this hasn’t been lost on me. 

This is now a fundraiser. I’m now donating 100% of all monies directly to the Rural Fire Service – specifically the accounts set up for families of volunteer firies who have lost their lives fighting these fires.

I’m aiming to raise $2 grand, and along with my records there’s plenty of goodies on offer including vinyl coasters, a lyric and cookbook with recipies, gift baskets from MAMA SMOKE.

These are records and gifts that are ready to go, they’re gifts I want to share, and if they can encourage some giving towards a good cause, then that’s the very least I can do in this time of crisis.
